OUR JOURNEY

Our journey started in the green desert oasis of Al Ain. Our first enterprise, AKAR, was founded by our Vice Chairman, Mr Abdel Naser Rahhal, under the esteemed chairmanship of H. H. Sheikh Theyab Bin Tahnoon Bin Mohammed Al-Nahyan. AKAR created some of the most popular large-scale landscapes in the city's public spaces.

The huge community interest in the work we did led us to creating Al Ain Paradise – a one-of-its-kind flower garden using only local resources. In 2010 and 2011 we set two Guinness World Records for having the largest number of hanging baskets in the world.

Our group portfolio expanded, with the acquisition of the American franchise Orkin, the world's largest pest control company. Orkin has won many prestigious awards, including the Best International Franchise award.

From there, we took the flower garden concept further – this time in Dubai, where on Valentine's Day 2013 we opened Dubai Miracle Garden. Changing its theme every year, Dubai Miracle Garden remains an enduring success story and holds the Guinness World Records for the 'Largest Flower Structure forming the shape of the Airbus A380' (2016), 'The Largest Vertical Garden' (2013) and recently we were awarded the accolade for the 'Tallest Topiary Sculpture' on 25 Feb. 2018. The 18 metre sculpture is Disney' first character floral display in the Middle East and is made from almost 100,000 plants and flowers, and weighs almost 35tons.

We opened Dubai Butterfly Garden in 2015, one of the world's largest covered butterfly parks within a nature-inspired, landscaped setting.

The Cityland journey continues. In 2018, within Dubai Global Village, we will open a unique concept in retail and entertainment. In additional to signature stores, food and beverage choices, and family entertainment, Cityland Mall will feature a lush, 360-degree garden, 200,000 square-foot garden space within the mall.

Also in Cityland's pipeline are number of nature-inspired shopping malls in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi
